Summary – Hans Schmuk Event On March 15, 2015 Rick Bullock and Nancy Orlando told the story of the discovery of a mysterious head stone which read “Here fell Hans Schmuk.” Rick had a little plug-in device that provided good sound, and he brought a popcorn maker and served popcorn, to go along with Tom Allen eating popcorn in the video. After the short video we had a general conversation about Hessian soldiers. We talked about the stone work near Worcester Road south that led out to the acre fields and about the bridge down near the beaver pond, both of which may have been built by Hessians. Then we talked about the blacksmith named James Ellis who made door latches which are still found in some of the older homes. The latches are marked with what looks like I. E. Ellis served with Burgoyne’s army, according to Blake. He settled in Princeton near the Poor Farm. Was he a Hessian with an Anglicized name?
